No. Scanning the QR code opens the menu directly in the phone's browser. It can optionally be added to the home screen as a PWA, but that's never required.
Guests need an internet connection (Wi-Fi or mobile data) to load the menu, the same as any website. Restaurant Wi-Fi details can be shown right on the menu to make that easy.
Guests can build a Digital Order List and show it to their server contactlessly, but ESS QR Menu doesn't process payments — checkout still happens the way it does today at your restaurant.
